Searching

I wonder if it is feasible to integrate some sort of search into PlasticSCM.

I'd like to be able to search a Repository for files, contents of files etc without having to have the files locally.

This could make use of Windows IFilters for Office, PDF etc. You would then have a super nice Doc Management suite on your hands.

Hi lojikl,

We have that already!

right-mouse click on a branch within for example Branch Explorer-->View-->View Branch Content

You will be able to browse through the content of that Branch without actually downloading nothing,

you can also see it in the Status (Controlled/Not on workspace).

On the top right side of the Branch Content window you can then use the Filter, to find in a second any file in that view.

I think you mean some kind of "indexing" so you can look into the file contents from the repo, right?? If that's the case, we're working on it for next major release.

Yup, index searching would be great. I have actually started assembling the bits and piece require to do this over SQL Server (i.e Lucence.NET for indexing and some IFilter integration for .NET etc) so I'd be interested in knowing when this next major release is scheduled....will save me some time and my boss some money.

forgot to mention, It would be awesome to be able to do this searching without having to start the main UI... some sort of popup search would be great, or integrated into Windows Explorer
