Oscar
Could anybody list some benefits of versioning directories as Plastic does? I feel quite a few drawbacks of doing so. And some times I got confused due to the versioning of directories. For example, when applying label, what's difference between labeling only files and labeling both files and the parent directory? Thanks, -Oscar
psantosl
Hi Oscar, You should get familiar with how selectors work in Plastic to understand the question you're asking. It is pretty simple, but it is not like Perforce, SVN or CVS work. The way a selector works is: - Loads the root item (special item on the system) - Finds a revision for it on your selector (following the rules) - Finds its children "items" (remember, items, no revisions) - Repeats finding suitable revisions for the items according to the rules the only way to "populate" a tree is to have suitable revisions for the directories and files. There's no way to load a file if a directory is not loading it. pablo
