nikhilhs
I deleted a changelist that I need to bring back. Is there a way to do this? Thanks. -Nick
psantosl
Wow! If you deleted it... it is deleted... I don't like the "delete changeset feature" so much since it is the second time in a week I heard about someone doing this... Suggestions?
CodingGorilla
I'm not sure why you would want to delete a change set, so it's hard to think of a different option. But maybe a "Hide Changeset" instead?
cidico
I like this feature. Sometimes I can delete on changeset that is not adding any value. To me is like a "undo changes" after the checkin. Am I wrong?
psantosl
Yes, it is something like that. Problem is you can delete a cset by mistake, then end up in trouble.
CodingGorilla
How does deleting the change set affect the code? Does it effectively remove the changes that were made in thats specific cset? Like if I have file1 at cs1, and add file2 at cs2, and then add file3 at cs3. If I delete cs2, is the result that I now have just file1 and file3?
cidico
Well, I never did what you're saying.. To me is just: "Oh... you're already did this in your branch?" then I delete my last cset. Then I switch my workspace to the same branch and Plastic updates my files to the latest revision. Don't remove the feature, just pop up several annoying messages of confirmation explaining what will happen after the delete!
nikhilhs
I wanted to change the state of the repository to what it was before the deleted changeset. Fortunately, I was able to recover the files from my backup system. However, is there a way to revert the state of the repository to changeset - 1? I'd be fine if it created a new changeset at changeset + 1 that's the same as changeset - 1.
carpediemevive
I think removing the functionality of deleting a changeset would be a mistake, but understanding why the user mistakenly deletes a changeset is worthwhile. In this case it sounds like the user wanted to go back to a previous changeset. Perhaps making the "Switch workspace to this changeset" more prominent and moving "Delete changeset" to hide it a little would be beneficial. I think too that you have to be careful sometimes when approaching a problem like this. Part of the great thing about a good source control software like Plastic is that you never have to delete anything, and, in practice, shouldn't be doing it. manu
I find the "remove changeset" very useful but maybe we have to explain better that in the 99% of the cases a substractive merge is enough...
voltaire585
Maybe the changeset should just get moved to an archive of deleted changesets.
manu
Yes, it could be another option.
